Mychelle Farmer, MD, FAAP is the Chief Medical Officer at Advancing Synergy. Previously, she served as the Senior Advisor on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) for JHPIEGO. In this role, she supported the global effort to integrate noncommunicable disease (NCD) screening and prevention into primary care and community-based settings. She also worked with country programs to find ways to expand sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and youth. Prior to her work at JHPIEGO, Dr. Farmer served as a Technical Advisor for Catholic Relief Services with a primary responsibility for NCDs. She has worked with Hesperian Health Guides (formerly the Hesperian Foundation) on prevention and community case management of hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.
Dr. Farmer serves on the Board of GEDCO (Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation), a non-profit organization focusing on special needs of older Americans living in Northeast Baltimore. This organization offers comprehensive services to promote health and wellness, and GEDCO addresses chronic underlying diseases for those who utilize their services. Given her breadth of experience on maternal and child health, she was recently appointed to the Stillbirth Advocacy Working Group, organized through the Partnership for Maternal-Newborn-Child Health.
Dr. Farmer is a pediatrician with a public health background and sub-specialty training in adolescent medicine and is a member of the Governing Council for NCD Child and is. She has a medical degree from Cornell University.
